Talk Mark Edwards

Mark Edwards

Edwards came to talk to us about his practice and how he got to where he is now. He studied for his MA in photography at De Montfort University. After graduating in 1997 he continued to lecture in Contextual Studies at the university.

In 2007 he was one of 150 artists, architects and designers commissioned to make a word for the V&A’s 150th Anniversary album. Not only did he get the opportunity to make work for the V &A he has recently lectured on his work at Tate Britain and the V &A.

In 2011, Mark was commissioned to make a new body of contemporary landscape photographs to be shown alongside the landscape drawings and paintings of Gainsborogh.  The resulting exhibition, entitled The View from Here, was shown at both The Holbourne Museum, Bath and Norwich Castle Museum. A full colour catalogue with a commissioned essay accompanied the exhibition.

As you can see in the image above Edwards uses a large glass plate camera to create his work . The image below was created from this camera. The image gives me the sense of mystery, due to the smoke in the image which makes me wonder who has set on fire and why. The muted colour pallete  of browns and greens create a sombre effect onme ans the trees as well look as though they have lost there buds suggesting their dying.
